Dysport®

An FDA-approved injectable treatment that temporarily smooths moderate to severe wrinkles by relaxing the muscles that cause them.

What is it?

Dysport is a FDA-approved injectable that blocks nerve impulses to injected muscles. Dysport works by decreasing the activity of muscles that contract when we frown, squint, laugh or make expressions and can be used to reduce fine lines, wrinkles and improve your overall appearance.

And because Dysport delivers the natural-looking results people want, 97% of users say they’d do it again. Additionally, Dysport is approved in 57 countries and has 25 years of clinical experience worldwide.

What to expect

After discussing your cosmetic goals and reviewing your facial anatomy, your treatment sites will be selected. Small amounts of the Dysport will be injected into targeted facial muscles. The actual treatment requires only about 10 minutes, with no recovery time. Results appear gradually over 1-2 weeks and last up to 3-4 months.

Dr. Susan Touma and her team are extremely careful to give you the level of control you want to produce natural-looking results. Dysport treatments for some patients may cause a small amount of localized pain, bruising, inflammation or swelling, which is easily treated with a cold compress. You will be in and out of the office quickly, with no downtime, and able to resume your normal activities immediately. Within 1 to 2 weeks, you will notice a softening of the targeted facial muscles and a reduction in wrinkling.

Dysport treats moderate to severe lines and wrinkles. Wrinkles are caused by repeated movements and muscle contractions, which means they can even develop in younger adults. Dysport injections temporarily prevent muscle contractions that cause lines, leaving the rest of your face to move naturally. In other words, no frozen look, just natural-looking results.

You’ve got better things to do than think about what your frown lines look like. In just one 10- to 20-minute treatment, Dysport may help improve the look of your frown lines between the eyebrows for up to 4 months. The majority of patients see improvement in just 2–3 days after treatment. Results of repeat treatments may be comparable to your first use. Another plus? There is minimal downtime after your treatment, which means you can get back to your day faster.

Although office visits can vary, the treatment generally takes 10 to 20 minutes.

Though results vary, there is typically a noticeable improvement in moderate to severe frown lines between the brows within 2-3 days.

The most common side effects are nose and throat irritation, headache, injection site pain, injection site skin reaction, upper respiratory tract infection, eyelid swelling, eyelid drooping, sinus inflammation, and nausea.

Dysport® and Botox are both made from botulinum toxin type A. All botulinum toxins have the same mechanism of action: blocking the release of acetylcholine (ACh) and preventing the muscles from contracting to maintain the aesthetic effect. However, the dose of Dysport is not the same as the dose of any other botulinum toxin product and cannot be compared to the dosage of any other botulinum toxin product that you may have previously used.
